Alex Fawcett

Meet Alex, the backbone of Eastgrove and a true embodiment of farming heritage as a 3rd generation farmer. Since he was two, Alex has called Eastgrove home, nurturing a profound connection with the land. As is the farmer’s way, he’s a versatile force, juggling roles as a part-time fencer, welder, mechanic, machinist, tyre fitter, and even doubling as a veterinarian when needed.

In his role as the farm owner, Alex steers the ship, making critical decisions and overseeing every facet of farming work at Eastgrove. It’s a role that requires a blend of skill, intuition, and a deep understanding of the land. Yet, even with this immense responsibility, Alex finds solace in the rare moments away from the farm. Flying his Zenair Zodiac aeroplane, casting a line for a quiet fish, or crafting his own brew, Alex unwinds, revealing the multifaceted character that defines him beyond the fields.

Martine Smith

Introducing Martine, the other half of Eastgrove. Like Alex, she dons multiple Ackubras. By day, she is a primary school teacher at the local school. When the afternoon bell rings, Martine seamlessly transitions into her on-farm roles.

In the agricultural tapestry of Eastgrove, Martine takes the lead in nurturing the extensive kitchen garden—a thriving plot that nearly makes the farm self-sufficient in herbs and vegetables. Beyond the garden gate, she assumes responsibility for a lively cast of farm inhabitants, including quail, geese, ducks, chickens, aviary birds, dogs, a cat, and a guinea pig. Martine’s favourite role is caretaker of the cattle herd she shares with Alex.

Much like a seasoned farmer tends to a diverse crop, Martine ensures the well-being of Eastgrove’s entire living ecosystem. Her hands-on approach extends to sharing tech responsibilities at Edgeroi Organics with Alex’s son, Charles Fawcett, ploughing through the digital landscape much like she does through the fertile fields. Martine’s dedication to nurturing both minds and farm creatures alike makes her an indispensable part of the Eastgrove farming narrative.
